- A nurse is one who opens the eyes of a newborn and gently closes the eyes of a dying man. It is indeed a high blessing to be first and last to witness the beginning and end of life.
- The month of May marks two special occasions, International Midwives’ Day and International Nurses Day, and should be acknowledged and celebrated. As one of the oldest existing profession, nursing is by far a profession of honor, courage, empathy, dedication, and love.
Not only do nurses have families of their own to care for, children to watch over, spouses to cater to, chores, responsibilities, and burdens to deal with, they also have to take care of their patients’ medical, physical, and emotional needs, reassure them, settle down their fears, soften their pain, and cheer them up even when they themselves are not feeling so cheerful.
The Role of Municipalities:
The Lebanese Municipal Agenda acknowledges the important role of nurses in our daily lives and stands behind the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations that stipulate that municipalities should establish a local health dispensary in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, in order to provide primary and general medical attention to its inhabitants. Nurses play a primary part in this respect, whereby, their services are contracted within these clinics for various fields of medicine. To finish with, nursing is not just a job; it is a call and a passion. When one chooses this profession, it speaks volumes about the personality. Therefore, on these special occasions, we salute you and thank you for holding our hand from the minute we are born until our last breath.
