The French City of Val-D ' Isère, represented by its mayor, m. Marc Bauer, and the city of bécharré, represented by the president of the municipality, Freddy Kairouz, sign today even, on March 23, a twinning agreement.
On 20 March, upon his arrival at the rafik hariri international airport in Beirut at the head of a French delegation, m. Bauer hoped that this twinning between the two cities will be positively affected in the sports sector, especially with youth, ensuring that an exchange of expertise will be carried out between the two cities regarding winter sports and skiing. On his side, m. Kairouz reported that this twinning will include several sectors, Sports, cultural and tourist, with a focus on winter sports and skiing.
Bécharré and Val-D ' isère are, indeed, world-famous for their ski resorts. And it is also around this sport in particular that a first exchange was carried out between the two cities. In 2018, a delegation from the Lebanese Ski Federation participated in a championship in Val-D ' Isère, in the presence of the president of the federation of municipalities of bécharré, salim keyrouz, from the city, and members of the family Baroudi, official sponsor of the ski championships in Val-D ' Isère, and who grew up in bécharré. It is then that an observation has imposed itself: a great resemblance binds the two Lebanese and French cities. The Baroudi family has immediately embarked on preparing a twinning project between bécharré and Val-D ' isère allowing an exchange of culture and expertise in the areas of sport, tourism and the environment.
With this twinning, Val-D ' isère will help bécharré develop its sports sector through the visit of French experts on site, in order to bring their technical and scientific vision for a better sports exploitation of bécharré. This twinning will also allow to deepen the friendly, human and cultural relationships between the inhabitants of the two cities, through an annual exchange of delegations. This is how in July 2018, a delegation of young Lebanese skiers, from 10 to 15 years old, visited Val-D ' isère to follow in particular a sports program and discover the city.
Bechara celebrates today in the big pump the signing of its twinning with Val-D ' Isère. A Memorial Monument has been erected on this occasion in front of the municipality of bécharré and will be unveiled before the signing ceremony that will be held around 13 pm, in the presence of mp setrida geagea and the ambassador of France in Lebanon, Bruno Foucher . This twinning will therefore habilitera the city of bécharré to strengthen and develop its sports sector, conscious that it is the best way available to youth to fight social excesses.
