Antoine Chakhtoura
A Patriot Like No Other

This past month has witnessed notable efforts in the city of Dekwaneh in an effort to battle corruption in Dekwaneh and the surrounding areas. A force to be reckoned with, the Mayor of the Municipality of Dekwaneh-Mar Roukoz-Dahr El Hossein , Antoine Chakhtoura took a solid stance on the illegal gambling file. As an incubator for various social ills such as prostitution, drug abuse and theft, Chakhtoura is on a mission to ban gambling, cooperate with other municipalities to dismantle gambling shops, and help reinstitute the gambling legal rights of the Casino of Lebanon.

Honoring Achievements

In other social aspects, as in indispensable leader of the community, Chakhtoura is in constant motion to encourage local citizens in their achievements. The Municipality of Dekwaneh-Mar Roukoz-Dahr El Hossein along with the National Commission for Lebanese Women's Affairs held a press conference to honor Dr. Joyce Azzam's march on the support of her project, as the first Lebanese woman to climb the top seven peaks in the world. Promising Azzam the Municipality’s permanent and continuous support on further achievements, Chakhtoura stressed his belief in the fundamental role of women in society. He further appealed to leaders and officials in Lebanon to emphasize and back the role of women on political, as in economic, social, sporting and humanitarian levels.

Pilot for Change

With a busy agenda and a sold principle for steering change, Chakhtoura maintains the community’s interests and well-being as his primary concern. He appealed to owners of electricity generators in Dekwaneh -Mar Roukoz-Dahr El Hossein not to collect generator bills for the month of July before contacting and reviewing the municipality under penalty of liability, especially since the Ministry of energy had not yet established the prices.
Further on the issue of electricity, the Mayor visited the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic community in Zahle and the Bekaa, Issam John Darwish, whereby he asked for the Bishop's assistance to work and to seek the transfer of the Zahle electricity model and the experience of engineer Assaad Nakad to Dekwaneh in order to relieve the electrical burdens of the citizens.
