Al Fidar’s Son: Rodrigue Bassil

One cannot mention the exquisite village of Al Fidar, in the Jbeil district, without simultaneously mentioning the name of Rodrigue Bassil. And just because he is no longer mayor of Al Fidar, one cannot but attest to the mark he left in the region and in the municipal field in general.

Many mayors serve long terms that span over decades. Yet, in the short time that Bassil served as mayor, he accomplished as much as others have in their lifetime. The three years whereby Bassil assumed the presidency of the Municipality of Al Fidar were characterized by utmost loyalty, dedication, and accomplishments.

All About the Cause

A true visionary committed to seeing results, Bassil is well respected and loved by the residents of Al Fidar. While many individuals and corporations are taking over the beaches of Lebanon illegally to construct resorts to pocket fortunes, Bassil utilized a land belonging to the municipality and opened a public beach for the residents of his hometown, to enjoy the beauty of the Lebanese coastline without having to pay an arm and a leg in the process.

With a cooperative spirit and a strong municipal council to aid him in his mission, Bassil tackled various environmental issues and dove into beach cleaning campaigns and various other movements for a cause. On a social front, he organized events on mother’s day, Christmas gift-giving, and other special occasions, with his wife, Nicole, by his side.

Social media presence and vigorous activity were also trademarks of this municipal council. With extensive coverage of the various events and news related to Al Fidar, Bassil and his municipal team were able to reach a large number of followers and interact with them virtually. Thankfully, this social media presence is still being continued today.

Bassil’s Legacy

Last but not least, and merely a few days prior to the end of his mandate as mayor, Bassil will mostly be remembered as the man who set the foundation station to the municipal palace in Al Fidar, that was funded by Mr. Francois Bassil, former Chairman and General Manager of Byblos Bank.

One does not have to be mayor to achieve what he believes in. Therefore, Mr. Bassil, I truly hope you continue this passion of yours that is innate in you and fulfill your mission towards your community, even if you are no longer mayor. Lebanon needs dedicated and humble leaders like yourself. Al Fidar loves you and its residents believe in you capabilities. Keep on the hard work for the sake of its community.
